Work Week 5

This was a hot, hot, hot weekend.  Saturday morning, we started out with our safety meeting on working in heat.  The office told us that we were doing great on our hours.  We all are averaging  40 hours or more a weekend. We were told if it reached 103 we would get to sit down.  We broke up to into different teams.  Carlos lead a group putting up kickers on the houses.
Carlos and volunteers putting kickers on lot 13.
Pat lead a group putting up and leveling boards .
Pat, Jeffery, and Jacob put up the last of the footing boards on lot 13.
John, Brandon, Leticia, and Steve worked together to put boards up.  They had help from the teens.  Hailee came out again to help us out.
John, Steve, David, and Michael putting the boards on lot 15.

Dave, Leticia, John working on getting the board level.

Debbie, Deena, Lupe, and Tricia worked on pulling strings.  We had help from many volunteers this weekend.  On Saturday, Deena's parents came out and a friend of her parents came out.  Lupe's sister and Dad came out on both Saturday and Sunday to help out.

Patricia moving dirt, so she could get rebar in.
Last group was on rebar.  They bent 120 rebar on Saturday.

Paul, Jackie, Maria, and Luisa had to add these clips that were made into the footings.

Debbie, Deena, Lupe, Patricia, and myself started on Debbie's lot Saturday morning.  It was hot.  We were thankful for the shade on the lot.  Lupe's family and Deena's family showed up, so we divided up into two groups.  One pulling strings and one group prepping the house for the strings.  This worked very well.  After we finished with Debbie's lot we moved to lot 17 and then over to Lupe's lot.  It was very hot doing Lupe's lot.  She has no shade trees.

The rebar team worked hard out in the heat all day Saturday.  No shade on the house, bending over a 12 inch footing adding clips.

They went through and added all these clips around the rebar.
We were so blessed on Saturday two friends brought out ice chests full of cold water, lemonade, popcicles, and gateraid.  We needed it.  The wind did start in the afternoon which helped, but it was super hot.  We never got to sit down, because of the heat.  We were all exhausted when we left on Saturday night.

On Sunday, we broke up into the same group and continued on with our different assignments.  We pulled string on Steve and Maria's lot.  The dirt was hard and it was hot.  By the time we completed their lot, we were tired.

By Sunday,  people were putting their heads under the water to help stay cool.  A friend stopped by right before last break to bring us cold drinks and otter  pops.  We needed it.  We were all tired and hot.

Late Sunday, we were told to use old string.  So we found some shade and got to work trying to make the balls of string useful.
Lupa, Deena, and Tricia trying to detangle the ball of string.

I am hopeless on this project.
After awhile I gave up and started to work pulling strings on Leticia's property.  She came over and helped me when she was not busy on the lot next door.

We got the garage square on the first try.  Yeah!!!!

Overall, we got a lot done this week.  We went home dirty, hot, and tired.  We learned a lot.  Thank you to everyone that came out to help us this weekend with labor and cold drinks.

Isaiah 41:10

10 ‘Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Prayer Requests:
1) cooler weather
2) For encouragement, as things have to be redone and progress seems slow.
3) health and energy throughout the week.
4) We all will learn the tasks that are assigned to us and do them well.
5)  Work together well as a group and show grace to others.

  1. Good job making it through that. Thought of you out there this weekend. We learned that rebar job years ago at Teen Missions. Took me back. Hope the weather tones down for you.
