Work Weekend 9

Saturday started out with our morning meeting.  We found out Sheryl was coming out to see how things were going for us. We discussed different topics and things that have come up in the last two months.  We had our safety meeting on  organizing and stacking.  We found out that the plumber had not finished working on our houses.  A few homes are ready for inspection, hopefully that will happen on Monday.  We were given our different assignments.  The rebar teams were: Andres, an extra helper he brought, Luisa, Maria, Jackie, Jackie's extra helper (1 rebar team) and Paul, Lupe, Evelyn, and Leticia (2 rebar team).  Pat, John, Robert, Maria, Delilah, and Wendy worked on finishing outside forms on Deena's house.  Brandon and Steve had to do more digging for the plumber.  Deena, David, Linda, Michael, and Debbie worked on cleaning out footings and vertical rebar. Patricia and myself worked on marking out windows and were bolts go. Alfredo and Naty continued bending rebar.  Carlos and Jacob worked on doing kickers on Deena's house.  We started to work and it just kept getting hotter as the day went. During our first break, Sheryl talked to us and we discussed that on Oct. 11-13 a group of college kids will be coming out to help us get a lot of work done on our houses. She also told us group 2 should be starting by sometime in November.  They have the 12 families.  All they need is to get their loans approved.

 Our friends John, Matt, Daniel, and Nathan came out each putting a little over one hour in.  As they were leaving our friend Kevin showed up with cold water and lemonade.  As he was leaving our friend Carrie brought us some ice cream bars.  Soon after we got back to work our friend Pam brought us cut up oranges.  Thank you all for supporting us both with your labor and with refreshing goodies for us.  What a blessing this support is to us!

 Sunday was a special day.  It was Patricia's birthday.  When she arrived, we all sang happy birthday to her.  Lupe and Paul gave her a cupcake.  Debbie handed out photos to all the families of their lot that she had developed (300 photos).  Thank you Debbie.  It was fun watching everyone looking at their pictures and sharing them with each other.  We got back to work.  Leticia brought out her brothers to help with rebarring Carlos and Jackie's house.  Paul and Lupe brought out Paul's Dad, Sal, to help today. We brought our friend Josh out.  He was great about helping Deena and Debbie get the footing ready for rebar.  Patricia and myself continued marking out windows, doors, and bolts.  After lunch we found out we had been marking a few things wrong, so we had to go back and correct our errors.  I am so thankful that we found the mistake today not after the footings were poured. Carlos and Jeffery dug for the strong walls 40 inches deep (that is a lot work).  Brandon, Pat, John, Steve,  Maria, Jacob, and Wendy worked on putting inside footing boards up on Alfredo and Naty's house.  The two rebar teams continued to work.  Dave and Linda (Deena's parents) came out and helped for a few hours today. Ian and Zach joined the digging team for a while today. It was another hot day. I can feel the difference when the days are over 100 degrees.  I am so much more tired. At last break my friend Charlotte and her three girls brought out cupcakes and Popsicles for Patricia's birthday.  Everyone enjoyed the treats.

We finished another hot weekend. One of my favorite things is to see everyone pitching in to help each other accomplish their work and to get their 40 hours. We were blessed by many people from different families coming out to help us build our homes.  Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend to help us build our little neighborhood.  I ended this week tired, hot, and feeling very blessed.

Psalms 138: 1-3
138 I will give You thanks with all my heart;
I will sing praises to You before the gods.
2 I will bow down toward Your holy temple
And give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
For You have magnified Your]word according to all Your name.
3 On the day I called, You answered me;
You made me bold with strength in my soul

Prayer Request:

1) strength and energy for this week.

2) cooler weather for next weekend.

3) that we work together well with speed and accurately.

4) Wisdom for Facio on how to teach us new skills and that we learn the skills quickly.
